A Poem for Homework?! If You Insist! :D

Sooo, for my Children as Consumers class, I had to write a poem for childre ages 4,5 or younger. It had to have something to do with consumerism.. With the help of Christen, my sissy, this is what I came up with.. Let me know what you think!

The Colorful Shoe

Once in a place
That was watery and blue
Lived Rowan the Octopus
Who found a colorful shoe.

He liked it a lot
And tried it on.
It looked real nice,
But, something was wrong.

Rowan had eight little feet
But, only one shoe.
He needed seven more
And knew what to do.

He asked his mom
To take him to the mall.
There, he found them,
Seven and all.

Rowan was happy
To wear the shoes
That began with a treasure
Found in the deep blue.

Better Late Than Never

I had NO IDEA that it has been SO LONG since my last post! I guess life has kind of gotten in the way a bit! Just a few things have occurred since August. haha

Been to Cinci a couple of times
Learned that I am, indeed, on drug ~~NOT PLACEBO~~ HOORAY!
And, nothing can top that, so, I stop there.

For My Doctors Whom Will Be Missed: Drs. Cohen and Robinson

Cohen Is A’Goin
(A Courtney Holmes Original Poem)

Elvis, or Big Al,
Are two of his names.
Dr. Cohen is the guy,
With high-standing fame.

While most play golf,
Or vacation in Tahiti.
This guy saves lives-
Resecting tumors that are meaty.

He is leaving the Rainbow
With his wonderful wife.
Ironically they both prefer
Brains under the knife.

Please, enjoy this poem
I wrote for you
The number of people who get these
Aren’t many- but few.

You saved my life,
That you did do.
Not just physically,
But, MENTALLY, too!

You let me finish
My season of volleyball.
Made me look somewhat ‘normal’
Whilst roaming the hall.

It may sound vain
Or silly, I’m told
But having hair is important
To a thirteen year-old.

I may just follow you
Wherever you go-
Whether it be Boston
Or Burkina Faso.

I wish you the best
In adventures to occur.
Promise me you won’t
Forget this brain, Sir.

Robinson Is Not In
(A Courtney Holmes Original Poem)

Dr. Dody Robinson
My Neurosurgeon
Has gone into places
Only one other has been.

Like: the lobes of my brain
Not just one time but twice.
To have documentation:
A picture would be nice. 

She was there since
I was thirteen
Shoved a tube through my head
Not [just] to be mean

She’s got rockstar hair
That’s very memorable
Very spunky and curly
Far away from dull.

You gave me a gift
Through neurosurgery
No more worries of seizures
Finally get to be me.

You sure left your mark
Well, more like a hole.
An infinite abyss
Blacker than coal.

That last line is not
Grammatically correct.
Please, look past it
For, now, the poem is wrecked.

I enjoyed stopping by
When I was “in house’.
Always dressed to the nines
In a skirt and a blouse.

Thanks once again
For taking the tissue.
One thing’s for sure
I’m gonna miss you.

Another Cinci Appt. Ft. MRI Goodness

Went to Cinci Wednesday. One of the longest days I’ve ever had at the hospital. But it was 11 hours, not 12.5. Great reports, for which I’m grateful. And about 50% tumor shrinkage! HOORAY! While I was in the MRI, for what seemed like eternity, I wrote a poem in my head to keep me busy. It went a little something like this:

“MRI Goodness: A Courtney Holmes Original

I’m lying in an MRI
The noise it makes is loud.
It is,oh, very cramped in here
With one there is a crowd.

I used to sit real still in here
My sleep was always swell.
Today is very different-
It actually is hell.

I’m currently watching a video
Of a number of things to hate.
Speaking of that number
Since which I have not ate.

This poem is beginning
To really not make sense.
I don’t know what is wrong with me
As I start to take offense.

I’d like to, please, get out of here
By the day of my next birth.
If that were to happen,
I would be filled with mirth.

C’mon my little techie friend
I have some place to be.
If you really want a picture,
I’ll sign and send to thee.

Just get me out of here right now
My legs have start to cramp.
These goggles are getting tighter
Something, blah-blah, yada.. camp

I am growing weary
As my hunger develops more.
You know what sounds really good?
A bonfire and a s’more.

Actually, no I take that back
I need some real food now.
I really will eat anything.
YES! Protein from a cow.

Can I order up in here?
ORRR would my chewing distract
From the cells in my brain
They dye tries to attract?

Whatever-I-don’t-care-no-more
You can tell. My grammar’s poor.
I’m starting to get sleepy-
–oh-look! I – see-the dooorrrr.”

I’d Rather Do This Instead of Studying

Chemistry

Chemistry is not fun
Chemistry is a “burn”
It is supposed, second nature
What is there to learn?

I don’t care about moles
I don’t care that atoms are a mergin’
I don’t care about theories
I especially hate conversions.

Please define Kelvin
How many in a joule?
How about all those chemists?

Yes, this is quite clever
Now you should go ‘home’.

We’re back to Chemistry
and all of its mess
I do like my professor
That I will confess

Nine in the morning
to whenever lab ends
Monday through Friday
Gotta wear those Depends.

Here’s a chart for this
and another for that
some of them are skinny
whilst others are fat.

So much information
In just a five week course.
Dr. Hu says that Google
Is quite a good source.

With three weeks to go
I’m ready to complete
this PERIODICally crazy class
Wouldn’t that be a feat.

Screw you
You stupid RAD.
I hate
You oh, so bad.
You make
Me wanna cry.
Please hang
Your head and die.
You might
try a noose.
Unless it
Gets too loose.
Then, well,
What’s the use.
Jump off
A train’s caboose.
At first,
Yeah, you were cool.
Til’ I had
To quit my school.
And leave
The ones I love.
